Training through Research
Description

IPORA’s Training through Research programme aims to develop an innovative training approach based on interdisciplinarity and learning through research. It is designed for Master’s students, PhD candidates and other early-career researchers, as well as professionals interested in interdisciplinary research approaches. The programme also seeks to foster interactions across disciplines, institutions and partner countries.

The main objectives of this programme are to:

  • Encourage innovation in interdisciplinary training through research
  • Promote co-supervision and joint supervision dynamics at doctoral level
  • Develop interdisciplinary initiatives for Master’s students
  • Strengthen student and faculty mobility
  • Engage and integrate the IPORA research community through regular seminars
  • Support scientific collaborations within the network
  • Foster the emergence of an interdisciplinary academic community

The courses

IPORA’s training programme is built around a set of complementary activities designed to strengthen students’ interdisciplinary skills and support their integration into international research environments.

The main initiatives include:

  1. Interdisciplinary seminars
These seminars bring together researchers and students around their research topics, with the aim of improving the quality of research work and encouraging dialogue across disciplines.
  2. Summer schools
These intensive one-week programmes bring together students and faculty members from across the network. They combine theoretical training, practical workshops and scientific exchanges. They are intended to be hosted in turn by the different campuses of IPORA’s partner universities, with remote participation options.
  3. Interdisciplinary tutored projects — Master’s level
These supervised projects enable students from different disciplines to work together in teams on issues at the interface of several fields. They may include literature reviews, data analysis, the development of survey tools, communication tools, or other research-related outputs.
  4. Mobility for students and faculty members
The programme supports international mobility in order to strengthen collaborations, academic openness and the sharing of skills.
For students and PhD candidates, this support may cover travel for fieldwork, data collection activities, or other research-related purposes.
  5. Doctoral training
This component focuses on developing mechanisms that promote co-supervision, joint doctoral supervision, international mentoring and the integration of PhD candidates into IPORA’s interdisciplinary network.
